joseph premiered at accra city hall
In an attempt to encourage more people of African or Ghanaian descent living abroad to return home in honor of the 400 years since our ancestors were sold into slavery, Step by Step Productions Incorporation has officially premiered the feature film “Joseph” in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the “Year of Return.”
Properly directed by Marcia Weekes and produced by Marietta Carter-Narcisse, the Accra City Hall Cinema hosted the world premiere of “Joseph.”
In the film, Kevoy Burton plays Joseph King, a young, accomplished Jamaican physician who had to grow up with the eerie memories of his grandfather, who pushed him to find his true ancestry in the Ashanti Kingdom of Africa.
As if those memories were not enough, Joseph felt the need to fulfil the promise made to his best friend from medical school, Kwaku, played by Mawuli Gavor, to visit Africa. However, much to the disapproval and disappointment of his father, the young Jamaican doctor embarked on a life- changing journey which spewed conflicts and age-old secrets.
Some audience reviews claim that the film inspired viewers to move to Ghana in addition to making them laugh about how Africans and Caribbean people relate to one another.
By releasing the film, the “Year of Return” program now has more acts that are endorsed.
On Saturday, December 7, Accra hosted the private, invitation-only premiere. Public screenings are scheduled for January 24, 2020, at Silverbird Cinemas.

The movie wants to make a splash in the Caribbean and crack the Nollywood film industry. It will have a screening at the Barbados International Film Festival in January 2020 after securing a distribution agreement with Film One Distribution in Nigeria. New releases are scheduled for New York, Toronto, and London in the New Year.
A wide range of international actors, including Sika Osei, Edward Kufuor, Harold Amenyah, Richard Yaw Boateng, Adjetey Anang, and Edinam Atatsi, were cast in “Joseph.”
