Musician Simphiwe Dana finally made the decision to live authentically and come out as a member of the LGBTQI+ community after years of being afraid to face prejudice.

The Ndiredi hitmaker revealed her sexual orientation on Twitter TL, saying that she had been keeping it a secret for too long and that, despite her expectation of rejection from Africa, she was comfortable with it.

I have been suppressing this for a very long time. I’m gay.

I am aware that if I come out, Africa will not accept me. However, after giving it some thought, I am cool with it. “I am extremely happy that I am getting married to a woman,” she exclaimed.

Simphiwe revealed to her fans during an interaction that she is bisexual and that she was unaware of this fact when she was a member of Ndiredi.

Simphiwe continued, sharing a photo of a person she claimed to be her partner and the woman she wished to marry: Pumeza Matshikiza.

The bio on Pumeza’s Instagram profile reveals that she’s an international opera singer, who sings soprano and is South African but is based in Berlin.

“I’m marrying her. She’s coming home to me today. Simphiwe posted a picture of herself with Pumeza on her TL with the caption, “We are so happy.”

It is evident that the typical trolls and the “men broke her heart and turned her into a lesbian” crowd made an appearance—after all, Twitter would not exist without them.

“Listen! We’re here for it. For all of it. Lots of love and best wishes to you and your partner, Rami wrote.
